”The Quintet” – The Contrasts-group – AMK 1004 – 2008

This group, that Mikkola put together, was named the new group of the year in the review of the Finnish main newspaper. The CD-release tour was organized by the Finnish Jazz Federation. The idea behind the forming of the group was to show the individual styles of two different saxophonists within the context of swinging straight ahead jazz. The chosen sax-players were Manuel Dunkel and Mikko Innanen. The rhythm section included Mikkola, the Greek pianist Georgos Kontrafouris and the drummer Klaus Suonsaari, who lives in the US. The traditional mainstream is spiced up here in many ways.
